Neighbors Rescue Couple From 3-Alarm House Fire

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Neighbors helped an elderly couple escape a raging house fire early Wednesday in a San Jose neighborhood, authorities said.

San Fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said the blaze erupted in the home in the 3200 block of Ensalmo Ave. at around 11 p.m.

There were residents in the structure – an elderly couple, their son and granddaughters.

Neighbors helped the elderly couple escape the rear of the home as the flames turned the structure into an inferno.

Arriving firefighters were greeted by a home fully engulfed in flames and called in a third alarm to help prevent the blaze from spreading into nearby homes.

There were no injuries and the fire was knocked down by 12:20 a.m., authorities said.

The blaze was believed to have started in the garage, but a cause and location still remained under investigation.
