Mystery Surrounds Fatal San Leandro Shooting

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) --  Homicide investigators were trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding a fatal weekend shooting outside the main entrance of the city's senior center.

According to police officers responded to several reports of gunshots at 7:35 p.m. Sunday in the 13900 block of East 14th Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle collision at the intersection of East 14th Street and 138th Avenue and assisted the victims in one of the vehicles. According to police, the occupants of the second vehicle, a minivan, had fled the scene.

While responding, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds on the walkway outside the main entrance of the city's Senior Community Center.

Police said paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

According to police, it is unknown whether the man was attending a private event at the Community Center or related to the car crash and investigators have since obtained surveillance footage, and began interviewing witnesses.

The identity of the man is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
