Powell Muni Station Reopens After Man Is Struck, Killed By Train

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The Powell Muni station in San Francisco reopened Saturday evening and regular Muni service resumed after a person was struck and killed by an outbound train Saturday afternoon, according to a Muni spokesman.

At about 6:30 p.m., all Muni stations between Van Ness and Embarcadero have reopened, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.

Bus shuttles running on Market Street between West Portal station and Embarcadero station will remain in place while regular Muni service resumes, Rose said.

The incident was reported around 2:40 p.m. at the Powell Muni station. Emergency responders arrived at the station to find a male down on the train tracks who had been struck by a train, San Francisco fire Lt. Robert Lopez said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said.

San Francisco police Officer Gordon Shyy said that based on the preliminary police investigation, he may have fell from the platform onto the tracks in front of the outbound train.

Shyy said the incident remains under investigation.
