Muni Annual Report Card Shows Key Improvements, But Not All Around
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Muni presented a one-year performance report card to a San Francisco Board of Supervisors Committee this week. While it shows self improvements in some key areas, it wasn't all good marks.
District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener called for the regular annual reports a year ago. His district includes the Castro, Duboce Triangle, and Twin Peaks among other areas.
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Director of Transit, John Haley told the supervisors' Land Use Committee there's been some success worth noting.
"Maintenance is improving, the reliability of the fleet is up and the number of delays and the duration of delays are down," he said.
However, there's been no progress in other key areas such as on-time performance, service gaps and bunching. According to the SFMTA, bunching occurs when two vehicles on the same route or line arrive too closely together.
Wiener looked down the road at the bigger picture of what this means for the future.
"We are going to be in a world of hurt if we don't have a transit system that is capable of providing a reliable service," said Wiener.
Other statistics showed that more people are riding Muni now over a year ago, but without more service that only adds to the overcrowding of the system.
