VALLEJO -- A suspect was injured in an officer-involved shooting after a police chase that started in American Canyon and ended in Vallejo on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

About 3:15 p.m., American Canyon police officers tried to pull over a car for a vehicle code violation in the area of southbound Highway 29 and American Canyon Road.

The driver didn't stop and police chased the car into Vallejo, where the suspect's car crashed into a fence in the area of Souza Way and Gateway Drive.

"Officers encountered one male suspect and shots were fired by an officer," according to a release from the American Canyon police department.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown. A short time later, a second male suspect was found and taken into custody, police said.

Police didn't release information about whether the injured suspect was armed or why the officer fired his weapon. Two guns were recovered at the scene, authorities said.

The investigation will be conducted by the Solano County major crimes task force.
