Multi-Car Crash On Interstate 580 In Livermore, At Least 1 Dead

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol is responding to a fatal crash on Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore Wednesday afternoon, a CHP spokesman said.

Officers responded to reports of a multiple-vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of I-580 just east of Vasco Road at 3:07 p.m., CHP Officer Steve Creel said.

Creel said one vehicle had flipped over and caught on fire and is blocking one lane. A second vehicle is blocking two more lanes and "several other vehicles" involved in the collision had pulled over to the shoulder, he said.

The CHP has confirmed one fatality in the crash, but Creel said he did not know the number of people injured.

A Sig-alert was issued for all eastbound lanes on I-580 between North Livermore Avenue and Greenville Road and Creel said he did not know when the lanes would reopen.

Creel advised anyone trying to travel through Livermore on I-580 to seek alternate routes.
