Muggers Jumping Cyclists In San Francisco Panhandle, Stealing Bikes

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - At least three people have been attacked in attempted bike robberies in San Francisco's Panhandle in recent weeks.

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition reports that people cycling through the Golden Gate Park extension have been "hit with a bottle or blunt object, and the assailants either stole or attempted to steal their bikes."

One man claims his friend broke his clavicle during a fall after being hit in the head while pedaling through the area. He told the blog Hoodline that two men carried out the attacks. The bikes later turned up on Craigslist.

"This is not a common occurrence, we had three and we believe they are done by the same group of suspects but descriptions are off so that is not confirmed," SFPD Park Station Captain Raj Vaswani told the blog.

Vaswani says plainclothes officers and an investigation team are now working the case.
