Mountain Lion Seen Near Portola Valley School

PORTOLA VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was seen near an elementary school in Portola Valley Tuesday morning, San Mateo County emergency officials reported.

The big cat was seen near Corte Madera School on Alpine and Corte Madera roads at about 7:15 a.m., according to the county.

No evacuations were necessary, officials said.

Anyone who has a close encounter with a mountain lion should not run from the animal, but face it and make a lot of noise, according to wildlife officials.

Mountain lions are typically most active at dawn and dusk.

More information on the predators can be found online at the state Department of Fish and Wildlife website, www.keepmewild.org.
