Monterey Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- The U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday that Monterey resident and U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Edward Balli was killed by hostile gunfire in Afghanistan on Monday.

Balli, 42, died of wounds he suffered from small-arms fire by insurgents in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province, department officials reported.

He had been assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2nd Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army Europe, based in Vilseck, Germany.
