Monterey County Sheriff Arrest 7 After Homeowner Catches Burglary In Progress

MONTEREY COUNTY (CBS SF) — Six men and women and one juvenile were arrested on suspicion of burglary in Monterey County late Tuesday morning, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

At about 11:50 a.m., a homeowner interrupted a residential burglary in the 600 block of Old Stage Road in Monterey County north of Salinas, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies at the scene conducted an investigation, which led them to a home in the first block of Deer Street in Salinas.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a white Chervolet pickup truck on Deer Street where they took two people into custody, sheriff's officials said.

Four people found at a home on the street were also taken into custody in connection to the robbery, according to sheriff's officials.

A juvenile led deputies on a short foot pursuit that ended after he crossed U.S. Highway 101 where he was taken into custody.

Deputies also recovered a sawed-off shotgun at the scene. The suspects were identified as 19-year-olds Destiny Lopez, Gilbert Ortiz and Jose Montelon, 21-year-old Damian Sanchez and 22-year-olds  Nathan Garcia and Stephanie Alococer all arrested in connection to the burglary.

The sheriff's office also arrested the juvenile but did not disclose his identity due to his age.
