Missing Special Olympics Athlete Mysteriously Turns Up In Hayward

HAYWARD (KCBS) -- After a frantic search all weekend for a Special Olympics athlete who went missing in Los Angeles, the man mysteriously showed up in the Bay Area.

Police said the Andi Gusmari walked into a police station in Hayward saying he was hungry around 2 a.m., Monday morning.

The 44-year-old athlete is from Albania. He disappeared Saturday night from a festival at the University of Southern California.

Investigators have no idea how he traveled over 350 miles from Los Angeles to Hayward. Officials said he had no money.

Gusmari is reportedly in good condition. Special Olympic organizers said they are working to reunite him with his family and fly him back to Albania.
