Missing San Pablo Children Found After Amber Alert, Mother Arrested In Father's Killing

SAN PABLO (CBS SF) -- A San Pablo father of three who was killed allegedly by his children's mother has been identified as 43-year-old Oscar Anguiano, a police commander said Tuesday afternoon.

Anguiano was found in the backyard of a home in the 1600 block of 16th Street after police received reports at about 7:55 a.m. Monday of a body there with at least one gunshot wound, according to San Pablo police Cmdr.  Jeff Palmieri.

His children, ages 12, 6 and 3, were missing, prompting a statewide Amber Alert later Monday.

Police eventually located 35-year-old Alicia Ortez, the mother of the victim's children, along with her male companion and the three children around 11:30 p.m. Monday at a home in the 400 block of South Eighth Street in Richmond, Palmieri said.

Police have not released the man's name, citing the ongoing investigation.

The three children were taken into custody by Child Protective Services, Palmieri said.

All three "are safe and in a good place and we're seeking the proper services for them," he said.

The children lived in San Pablo with Anguiano, who was estranged from Ortez. Palmieri said it is unclear whether the two were ever married.

He said detectives haven't determined a motive for the killing and said he did not have information about the estranged couple's child custody arrangement.

Police hope to present the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office for review later this week.
