Missing San Francisco Backpacker Found Safe In Nepal

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 30-year-old San Francisco man who was hiking in the Himalayas when the 7.8-magnitude Nepal earthquake struck last week has been reported safe by his family.

According to a CNN iReport, Francis Gonzalez has been backpacking across Asia since last fall. He contacted his father on April 14 to let him know he reached Nepal and would start hiking in a couple of days. His family had yet to hear from him until now.

Francis' cousin Michelle Gonzalez said he was found safe and sound on Thursday. When she first reported him missing, she said it's likely he was busy helping injured people given he has some medical knowledge.
