4 Arrested After Break-In At Milpitas Gun Store

MILPITAS (KPIX 5) – Four suspects are in custody following an attempted burglary at a gun store and indoor shooting range in Milpitas early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the suspects broke into the Target Masters West on Minnis Circle around 2:00 a.m. by breaking in through the roof. The gun store is located next to the Milpitas Police Department headquarters.

Police said an officer who was leaving the station at the time heard an alarm from the store and saw one of the suspects climb off the roof and into a getaway car. Those two suspects were arrested a short distance away.

When police arrived at the store, they found a third suspect holding a weapon. Since he climbed through the roof and the front doors were locked, police said he could not surrender for several hours until officers were able to open the doors around 5:30 a.m.

"He wanted to surrender," said Lt. Raj Maharaj of Milpitas Police.

A fourth suspect was able to escape from the store, but was arrested a short time later.

The store's manager told KPIX 5 that she thought it was "stupid" for someone to break into a gun store so close to a police station.
