Milder Temperatures Could Aid Crews Battling Valley Fire

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Roberta, what's the weather look like over the next couple of days in Lake and Napa Counties? - Rob Peterson, Cobb

A: A little bit of an improvement until this upcoming weekend.

The winds are certainly not as gusty for the Valley Fire which is currently only 5% contained. However, this fire is so massive, so monstrous in size, it is creating its own weather pattern and winds. The good news? There is an increase I humidity and cooler temperatures with light rain in the forecast. An upper level disturbance is producing the cool welcome change for firefighters. Any rain will be a .10 of an inch or less. Tuesday will be dry and unseasonably mild conditions. By Wednesday, another shot of rain moves into the forecast with additional cooling taking place. On Thursday, temps jump 10 degrees Inland and the humidity lowers. Then Friday through Sunday, firefighters will endure warmer conditions in the 80s and 90s and low humidity, but thank goodness, the winds are to remain light.

Unfortunately, four years of drought has left California and the Bay Area extremely vulnerable for fire danger. My heart and prayers go out to all our Bay Area residents affected by the #Valley Fire and to all the firefighters and crews battling this devastating blaze.
