Mattel Teams Up With Google For High-Tech 'View-Master'

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- Toymaker Mattel is teaming up with Google for a high-tech update to the much loved View-Master.

Mattel unveiled the new View-Master at the Toy Industry Association's Toy Fair in New York this month.

The new View-Master works with Google Cardboard, and uses an Apple or Android smartphone inserted as the display.  The View-Master is scheduled to be released in October of 2015 for just under $30.

"By working with Google's Cardboard platform, we are now able to take that experience even further bringing the discovery and immersive viewing experience of the View-Master to the digital age," Doug Wadleigh, SVP and Global Brand General Manager, Toy Box at Mattel said.
