Matt Cain Ends Season Early Due To Elbow Surgery

SAN FRANCISO (KCBS) — The decision has been made for Giants right-hander Matt Cain, who will have bone chips from his elbow next Monday: he will end the season earlier. The Giants say, however, that he will be ready for spring training.

Cain had suffered through his worst season; he is only 2-7 with with a 4.18 ERA in 15 games. The decision was expected.

Bochy said Cain will need about three months' recovery time so he should be ready for spring training.

The Giants acquired Jake Peavy in a deal with Boston last week.
