Massive Sinkhole, Landslide Close Highway 101 Near California-Oregon Border
(CBS SF) -- Highway 101 near the California-Oregon border has been closed, and a detour has been put in place, due to a massive sinkhole and nearby landslide.
According to the Curry Coastal Pilot newspaper of Brookings, Oregon, a storm early Thursday dropped about 1.5 inches of rain on the town of Harbor. The town is about five miles north of the state line, about 110 miles north of Eureka.

Following the storm, a sinkhole emerged on Highway 101. At the same time, a road parallel to the highway collapsed due to a landslide. Officials closed the highway soon after.
Motorists are being redirected to nearby surface streets to get around the closure.

Kyle Rice, who lives near the sinkhole, recorded this drone video of the area before Highway 101 was completely closed.
Reporter Ariana Rakhshani of CBS affiliate KTVL shot this video of the sinkhole on Friday.
It is unclear when repairs would begin.
