Martinez Hospital Briefly Locked Down After Gunfire Reported, Police Give All Clear

MARTINEZ (KCBS)- Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez and the Martinez Health Center was reported to have been briefly locked down on Tuesday.

Around noon the Contra Costa Health Services website put up a breaking news banner that read the medical center and the Martinez Health Center were locked down and that there were reports of gunfire near the buildings.

Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jimmy Lee said police gave the post-investigation "all clear" just after 12:30 p.m.

According to Lee it was, "Not a lockdown" and there was no gunfire. "Someone thought they saw [a] person with a gun on the hillside behind the hospital." Police checked the hillside.

A spokeswoman for County Health Services said the gunfire was reported on the hill above the hospital campus and that the lockdown was a precautionary measure.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
