Marin Ranked As One Of The Worst Counties In America To Own A Home

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - A Weather Channel study claims Marin County is one of the 20 worst places in America to own a home.

The risk of earthquakes, flooding and wildfires combined to land the northern end of the Golden Gate on the list, ahead of any other county on the West Coast.

"Drive north out of San Francisco and across the Golden Gate Bridge and you'll end up in Marin County, home to picturesque cliffside Pacific Ocean and bayside views, multimillion dollar mansions and one of the worst places to own a home in the U.S.," writes the Weather Channel.

The study considered everything from the cost of heating and cooling a home to weather-related deaths in generating the ranking.

Hurricane Katrina-ravaged Orleans Parish, Louisiana was named the worst county in the nation. Many of the counties coming in ahead of Marin have recently dealt with a serious Hurricane.

A few other California Counties made the list, including Santa Barbara and San Diego.

Marin residents may not be accustomed to such criticism. The County has recently won accolades such as the "Best County In California" and one of the "Healthiest Counties In America To Raise Kids."
