Man's Body Recovered From Private Lake Near Calistoga

CALISTOGA (CBS SF) -- A man's body was recovered from a private lake near Calistoga Wednesday morning, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies responded around 7:30 a.m. to the 4000 block of Mountain Home Ranch Road after receiving a report about a canoe accident on the lake, Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

Witnesses said the man in his 40s fell out of a canoe and presumably drowned, Crum said.

The sheriff's dive team responded but the man's body was located and brought to the shoreline before the dive team arrived, Crum said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity is not being released until his next of kin are notified, according to Crum.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department and the Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in Calistoga also responded to the drowning.
