Man Suspected Of Killing His Mother In Fremont Arrested In Kensington

KENSINGTON (CBS SF) -- A man suspected of killing his mother in Fremont Tuesday was arrested Sunday morning in Kensington, a community in unincorporated Contra Costa County, police said.

Kensington police received a call at about 5:50 a.m. of a suspicious person with a duffel bag on the porch of home on Lake Drive, according to police.

Officers found the man walking along the road and detained him, police said.

Officers identified the man as Omar Pettigen, 31, according to police.

Authorities conducted a welfare check at about 11 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment in the 3900 block of Monroe Avenue and found a woman in her 60s dead, police said.

The level of violence used in the killing was severe, according to investigators.

Officers booked Pettigen into the Fremont jail this evening, police said.

He will be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Fremont Tuesday at 2 p.m., according to police.
