Man Struck, Killed Near Atherton Station Is 12th Caltrain Death Of 2015

ATHERTON (CBS SF) -- A train fatally struck a man near the Atherton Caltrain Station Friday afternoon, according to Caltrain officials.

At 2:56 p.m., a northbound train struck an adult male, causing Caltrain's 12th fatality of the year, Caltrain officials said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the death was an intentional act, Caltrain officials said.

At the time of the accident, there were 400 people on board the train.

The collision caused delays of up to 90 minutes as trains ran on a single track through the area.

A SamTrans bus bridge was deployed to accommodate passengers between the Menlo Park and Redwood City stations during the incident but was canceled at 4:35 p.m.

Trains do not stop at the Atherton station on weekdays, Caltrain officials said.
