The 28-year-old man was hit at 6:26 p.m. near Mission and 24th streets.

He ran across Mission Street outside of a crosswalk to try to catch a taxi on the other side, but was hit by a car heading north on the street, police said.

The man suffered head trauma and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were considered life-threatening, according to police.

The car that struck the man had a green light and its driver was not arrested, police said.
