Man Stabbed To Death In Oakland Tuesday Morning Attack

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A man in his 30s was killed in a stabbing that occurred in Oakland Tuesday this morning, police said.

The stabbing was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the 600 block of 31st Street, off of Martin Luther King Jr. Way near state Highway 24, police said.

Officers arrived to find the victim in front of a home, police spokesman Officer Frank Bonifacio said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man has been detained in connection with the killing, but police have not identified him.

Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses, and are looking into whether the stabbing may have been captured by any home surveillance cameras in the residential neighborhood, Bonifacio said.

As of 1:20 p.m., 31st Street remained cordoned off. The street is lined with single-family houses, and there is a boarded-up building at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way that once housed the Variety Grocery and Deli and the Urban Beauty Supply store.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call (855) TIPS-247 or text TIP OAKLANDPD to 888777 from a cellphone.
