Man Stabbed By Fellow Passenger On BART Train In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A man was stabbed in the arm by a fellow passenger on BART as it passed through Oakland Sunday night, BART police lieutenant said.

The stabbing aboard a train approaching the Lake Merritt BART station was reported around 9:10 p.m., according to BART Lt. Steve Coontz.

BART police held the Fremont-bound train at the San Leandro BART station to search for suspects and the victim was taken to an area hospital with a significant stab wound to the arm, the lieutenant said.

The wound was not considered life-threatening and the man was in stable condition.

Coontz said officers initially detained several people but none were identified as suspects.

He said the suspect is believed to have exited the train before it reached San Leandro.
