Man Shot Dead In Vallejo; Armed Suspect Still At Large

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A man was shot to death in Vallejo Tuesday afternoon, prompting a large police response and a lockdown of a nearby school.

Vallejo Police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the head in front of a liquor store on the 21oo block of Springs Rd. at around 1:00 p.m.

The unidentified Vallejo resident died of his injuries at the hospital, according to police.

A witness outside the store told KPIX 5 she thought someone had punctured her tire. "The victim was literally next to my vehicle and he got shot by my vehicle ... his fragments and stuff are still on my vehicle." said Courtney Perdue, who was with her children at the time of the shooting.

"It was very traumatic. I had grabbed my son out of the vehicle, running inside the store for cover, my car was still running, I left everything in there." said Perdue. "It was something that I'll never forget."

Perdue said she did not get a look at the gunman.

Police were looking for an armed Hispanic male adult in his late teens to early twenties. He was described as having dark, puffy hair, approximately 5-foot-5, with a thin build.  He was last seen wearing a black hoodie jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans.

Nearby Hogan Middle School was placed on lockdown while police set up a perimeter, according to the Vallejo Times Herald.

Vallejo Police urged any witnesses to contact the department.
