Man Shot By Antioch Police Officer Struggling To Detain Him

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) --  A police officer shot and injured a man who resisted being detained in Antioch Monday morning, according to police.

The shooting was reported at 8:51 a.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Folsom Drive.

Officers were called to the scene regarding a rifle that had been found in the street. An officer encountered a male subject who then ran into an open garage, Captain Leonard Orman of the Antioch Police Department said in a statement.

While trying to detain the suspect, the officer fired his sidearm striking the man several times, Orman said.

The scene was secured and the man was flown to John Muir Medical Center with injuries. He was responsive when removed from the scene, but his current state remains unknown, according to police.

The officer was not injured.

Additional details were not immediately available as an investigation is pending.
