Man Killed In Possible Gang Related Shooting In Sunnyvale Identified

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- A man killed early Saturday in what police said was a possible gang-related shooting that also wounded a woman has been identified as 20-year-old Ernesto Castro-Sanchez, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office

Castro-Sanchez, a Sunnyvale resident, died from a gunshot wound to his neck, the medical examiner's office reported.

Officers of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety responded to a reported shooting at Encinal Park in the 400 block of Macara Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

A man was found shot and emergency crews tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The woman who was also shot at the park was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening, officers said.

Police are still investigating the shooting, which officers believe could be tied to street gang activity.
