Man Killed, Another Wounded In Salinas Early-Morning Shooting

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police in Salinas are investigating a shooting Saturday morning that killed one person and sent another to the hospital.

Officers responded at 12:17 a.m. to the area of 1140 Pacific Ave. to a report of shots fired and a man down.

Responding officers discovered a 24-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

While canvassing the area, officers located a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

The 21-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police said both victims are known Sureno gang members, and it is believed the motivation behind the shooting is gang-related.

Police have not released the victims' names.
