Man In Wheelchair Who Doesn't Speak Robbed In Palo Alto Parking Lot

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Police are looking for two men who robbed a man in a wheelchair who doesn't speak in a Palo Alto parking lot on Wednesday afternoon.

Two men approached the victim between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the northeast corner of the parking lot of the Town & Country Shopping Center at 855 El Camino Real and began speaking to him, according to Palo Alto police Detective Sgt. Brian Philip.

After several minutes, one of the men asked the victim, who is in his 60s, if he had any money, Philip said.

The victim nodded yes, and the man then felt through the victim's pockets until he found his wallet and took it. The two men then walked away, Philip said.

Police learned of the robbery after a call on Friday morning to police dispatch prompted them to check on the well-being of the victim, who was sleeping in the parking lot, Philip said.

The victim reported the robbery by writing notes to police officers, Philip said.

Both suspects are black men in their mid-30s, according to the victim's description.

The primary suspect is clean-shaven, about six feet tall and 200 pounds with a medium build. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with the word "Security" written across the front and black pants at the time of the robbery, police said.

The other suspect is about five feet five inches tall, between 170 and 200 pounds, with a heavy build and short blond hair. He was wearing a yellow long-sleeved shirt with the word "Pacific" written on it, police said.
