Man Fatally Strikes Granddaughter While Backing Up Truck In Vacaville

VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- A man struck and killed his 6-year-old granddaughter while backing up his truck in unincorporated Vacaville Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 9:20 a.m. when Brad Beck, 59, was driving on a gravel road on Beck Lane, CHP officials said.

Beck did not realize that his granddaughter, Gianna Ferro, had been pedaling her bicycle directly behind the truck. When he began backing up the truck to attach it to a boat trailer, he struck the girl, causing fatal injuries, according to the CHP.
