Man Detained After Mountain View Police Standoff

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- One person has been detained following a standoff in Mountain View Wednesday afternoon with a depressed man who allegedly brandished a firearm, according to police.

The standoff began after police were called to a home in the 1000 block of Williams Way at 12:51 p.m. by a person who said they were concerned about a depressed man there, police spokesman Shino Tanaka said.

The man barricaded himself inside the home with his teen daughter and refused to come out, and at one point brandished a firearm, Tanaka said.

Trained hostage negotiators were talking to the man from outside the home Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities were able to get the daughter out safely, Tanaka said.

Police also evacuated five or six neighbors out of concern for their safety, Tanaka said.
