Man Critically Hurt In Salinas Saturday Night Shooting

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Salinas police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that left a man in critical condition.

Police said officers responded to a shooting around 11:29 p.m. in the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue and found Yoni Zavala Medina, 32, unconscious in a carport and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said Medina was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where he was stabilized, and he was then flown to a Bay Area hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Medina and several friends and relatives were eating, drinking and listening to music when two Hispanic men approached them, according to police.

Police said the men pulled handguns and began shooting. Medina was the only person shot.
