Man Crashes Stolen Car After Police Pursuit From Pittsburg To Richmond

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Pittsburg police and California Highway Patrol officers chased a suspect to Richmond Wednesday afternoon, but the pursuit ended when the suspect crashed, CHP officials said.

Pittsburg police alerted CHP officers that they were pursuing a stolen Hyundai Elantra west on state Highway 4 at about 2:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

CHP took over the pursuit as the driver went from Highway 4 to Interstate Highway 80.

The Elantra was going over 100 mph as it went into Richmond, eventually colliding with two other cars on Highway 80 and then getting off on Cutting Boulevard.

The driver hit a third car on Richmond city streets, leaving the Hyundai disabled. The suspect jumped out of the car and started running but was quickly arrested, CHP officials said.

The CHP identified the driver as Rasad Albert, a 23-year-old Oakland resident. He is being held on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and evading police.

No one was seriously injured in the pursuit, CHP officials said.
