Man Assaulted For Picking Up Trash In San Francisco's Castro District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man removing trash from the street in San Francisco's Castro District was thanked for his good deed with an assault early Saturday morning.

The 44-year-old man picked up a trash bag from the street near the corner of 18th and Castro streets about 12:15 a.m., police said.

Another man in his late 40s came up and demanded to know why he had moved the trash out of the street.

The other man pushed the man removing litter into a light pole and down to the ground, causing a contusion to his head and laceration to his ear, police said.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries not considered life threatening, police said.
