Man Arraigned On Murder Charge For East Oakland Shooting Death

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 50-year-old man was arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court Monday on a murder charge for the shooting death of a man in East Oakland last summer.

Gary Shea is charged for the fatal shooting of 48-year-old Corey Prentice in the 4800 block of Daisy Street near Mills College at 10:52 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2013.

Officers who responded to the shooting last Aug. 31 found Prentice suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Oakland police said shortly after the incident that they believed Shea killed Prentice.

Shea remained at large until last Tuesday, when U.S. Marshals deputies arrested him in Lassen County, just north of Reno, Nevada.

Shea is also charged with being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm because prosecutors allege that he has three prior felony convictions for petty theft, attempted petty theft and possession of a firearm by a felon.
