Man Accused Of Killing Goose With Bare Hands At Oakland Park Charged

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- A man accused of using his bare hands to kill a goose at Lakeside Park is facing two misdemeanor charges.

The Oakland Tribune reports that 30-year-old Yonas Alehegne was charged Thursday with a misdemeanor count of cruelly wounding an animal and another misdemeanor for resisting arrest.

Park employees reported to police Tuesday that a man had been choking a Canada goose. A police officer arrived to find the goose already killed and decapitated. The man was plucking its feathers.

Alehegne allegedly told the officer that he was hungry and wanted to eat the goose.

Police say the officer used his Taser to subdue Alehegne after he refused to comply with commands.

He was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation and is now being held at Santa Rita Jail.
