Person Rescued From Under Train At Embarcadero BART Station

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- East Bay-bound BART service from San Francisco was interrupted Monday morning as fire crews rescued a person from under a train at Embarcadero station, BART officials said.

BART issued the tweet shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday.

BART police initially confirmed that there were reports of a person under a train but did not immediately know the person's condition. San Francisco Fire Department crews responded to the scene and the station was closed for about an hour during the rescue.

As of about 10:43 a.m., service had resumed in both directions on the westbound track, BART spokesman Taylor Huckaby said. As of about noon, BART service was resuming normally through the station in both directions, though residual delays are expected to continue.

At 11:16 a.m., San Francisco Fire tweeted that the victim was alive.

A San Francisco Fire Department incident commander said the man fell off the BART platform and landed in between tracks. While approximately six cars of a train went over him, he only suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital after being extricated from underneath the train.

KCBS reporter Doug Sovern spoke with a firefighter after the man was pulled from under the train and was told that the man they rescued was "conscious and talking." The firefighter reported his condition after the accident having suffered only a few scrapes as "incredible."
