Firefighters Gain On Loma Fire In Santa Cruz Mountains

SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS (CBS SF) -- Firefighters managed to gain greater control over the Loma Fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Wednesday night, Cal Fire officials said.

The wildfire that began over two days prior near Loma Prieta and Loma Chiquita roads in Santa Clara County, had burned 2,865 acres and was 22 percent contained Wednesday night.

At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Cal Fire officials announced that over 300 structures were still threatened by the wildfire.

Mandatory evacuations remain in place for the Loma Prieta ridgeline area, including all roads along Summit Road from Soquel San Jose Road to Ormsby Fire Station, according to Cal Fire.

Evacuation centers remain set up in Morgan Hill, Los Gatos, and Watsonville.
