500 Little League Players Displaced By Tesoro Refinery Strike
CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Talk about striking out. A bunch of Bay Area Little League players are locked out of their home fields because the company that runs their baseball fields is in the middle of a labor dispute.
As of Tuesday night, 15 fields -- all owned by the Tesoro Refinery -- are locked up in Concord. With the United Steelworkers on strike, close to 500 players in the Junior Optimist Baseball League have no where to practice.
"We put a lot of work into it prior to the fields being closed and now we're supposed to start," said League president Pattie Beahmlander. "Kids were supposed to start practicing for the season."
The first non-practice pitch of the League's season is set for March 21. That's if they can even find a place for the teams to play ball.
