Legal Battle Over Pricey Meteorite Headed To Oakland Court

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A Novato man is in a legal battle over a valuable rock from outer space.

Stephen Settgast acquired a 220-pound piece of a valuable meteorite back in 2004. Ten years later, a dealer helped arrange to sell it for $425,000.

But the people Settgast hired to get it ready claimed it was worth $1 million. That's when he apparently took it back.

In a federal lawsuit, Settgast says the dealer committed fraud by making a sale with a museum instead of a private collector.

The buyers claim Settgast just had seller's remorse.

The first hearing is set for June in Oakland.
