Latest Storm Gives San Francisco 7th Wettest December On Record

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – With another storm passing through the Bay Area on Friday, San Francisco is in the midst of its 7th wettest December on record.

Friday's storm brought 1.23 inches of rain to San Francisco, bringing the total amount of December rainfall so far to 11.52 inches.

San Francisco is not far off in beating the record for 6th wettest December. Only a little more than half an inch of precipitation by New Year's Eve is needed to beat the mark of 12.03 inches set in December, 2002.

If that happens, it would also be the wettest December since 1889. To put in perspective, Benjamin Harrison was President of the United States and there were only 46 states at the time.

Weather records in San Francisco go back to the Civil War era.
