Larry Magid: Will Samsung's Galaxy Edge Out The iPhone 5s?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Samsung unveiled a new version of its popular Galaxy smartphone at an event in Barcelona Monday. The latest version includes a better camera, some notable fitness tracking features, and even a children's mode.

While I wasn't in Spain for the unveiling, I did watch the Samsung event online. It's an interesting evolution of the Galaxy S4 and the S3 before that.

In some ways, they are catching up with Apple with their own version of a fingerprint reader (this also works with the heart fitness monitor). You can also opt to wear one of Samsung's watches or fitness bands that act as an accessory.

 

Users should be pleased to find the screen is brighter and slightly larger at 5.5 inches instead of the five-inch older version.

One thing I thought that was pretty cool, is that if you have both Wi-Fi and a high-speed cellular, you can combine the speeds of both and get lighting fast data and downloads. Of course, you might have trouble affording all that data.
