Larry Magid: Google Classroom Could Be Solution For Teachers And Students
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Google is out with a new feature for teachers and students called Classroom. It's part of a new offering in its Google Apps for Education and could be the solution for the old excuse: 'the dog ate my homework'.
Now teachers can assign their student's homework and students can download it, respond to it and actually upload their assignments. It's basically a class assignment center.
The idea is to create a more interactive forum within the education realm by improving classroom communication through the creation of folders in Google Drive and storing things in the cloud.
It really goes to show how Goolge is trying to make a big push into the classroom, which seems to be a brilliant move on their part. It may remind some of us of when Apple pushed their computers in classrooms early on.
This is really an opportunity for them to gain some lifetime loyalty. As of last week Google has stopped collecting data from students and stopped putting ads on their education website.
Right now the app is invite only, but it should be opening up big-time in September just in time for back-to-school season.
