Larry Magid: Facebook Launches Friend Finding Feature

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Facebook is making it easier for users to find which of there friends is close by, with a new feature called Nearby Friends.

The feature works on devices running both Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems. If users enable the feature, they can see what city and neighborhood a friend is in, how many miles away they are, and how long ago they were there.

As with many location-based apps, there are restrictions. Both users have to have the feature turned on to use it. Users can also narrow down the list of friends who can see their location. And, you can only see a friend's location if you decide to share your specific location and the amount of time you will be there.

The app is not available to anyone under the age of 18 and users can turn it off and on whenever they want.

You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
