Larry Magid: Eyefi Syncs Camera's Pictures To Other Devices

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A new cloud storage service aims at syncing pictures across all consumer devices and computers.

Eyefi has long made SD cards for cameras. Now, Eyefi's Mobi Wi-Fi-enabled SD cards will sync with smartphones, uploading photos automatically to an Eyefi Cloud account, and making them available across all devices.

Eyefi is charging an annual $49 subscription fee for the service, and it will be especially helpful for those who use digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. One of the disadvantages of DSLR cameras is the images are stuck in the camera until you transfer them to a computer, and then upload them. With the Eyefi Cloud service, the images are transferred to the cloud, then available to be shared across different devices.

Other cloud storage companies offer similar services, but often charge by the gigbyte, where Eyefi is charging an annual fee.
