Larry Magid: Latest Version Of Google Chrome Has Parental Controls
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Google is out with a new version of its Chrome browser and it includes a feature that will please a lot of people who sometimes may have been caught off guard from unexpected sound blaring from their computers.
Chrome 32 has an indicator that shows you if sound is coming from a tab and what tab it's coming from. Let's say you're off looking at the New York Times or trying to listen to KCBS, but you're also hearing music blaring out of your speakers but you don't know why.
You'll look over and you'll see a speaker icon in the tab and you go ahead and close it. I'm relieved about this for a number of reasons. It's so annoying when music intrudes when you're surfing the web. I actually have to turn my speakers down when I go on the air for fear that some sound is going to come out of my computer.
They've also quietly snuck in some parental controls where you can now create a supervised user. Once you create that user, you can supervise or see where the user has gone and block certain sites. It's a simple way for parents to control what their kids can do online.
