Larry Magid: Apple's New MacBook Air Available At Cheaper Price
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Apple has unveiled a new and improved MacBook Air at a cheaper price, but the improvement isn't anything to get too excited about. They've just bumped it up to speed a little bit.
I have last year's MacBook Air and have no particular interest to upgrade. I do, however, think the price is significant because it now starts at $899. That's still a lot for an 11-inch laptop, but it does put it in shooting distance, so to speak, with some of the Windows laptops.
Now don't get me wrong, it is a very nice laptop with its 120 GB of flash storage, which means it's instant, there's no delays, no moving parts or hard drives. I love my 13-inch model.
There are Windows laptops that are just as expensive (even more so in some cases) but with this you get a quality machine and the price takes away some of that Macintosh premium.
