Lake Tahoe Locals Say Ski Season Among Worst In Decades
LAKE TAHOE (CBS SF) – Much needed snow is forecast to reach the Sierra and Lake Tahoe later this week. Resorts are hoping the snow will provide some hope amid one of the worst ski seasons in decades.
Locals said that the snow conditions are among the worst in almost 40 years because of the lack of precipitation. Late last month, officials with the Department of Water Resources reported the snow pack was only 12 percent of normal.
Skiers at Squaw Valley reported spring-like conditions on Tuesday, with high temperatures in the 50s. KPIX 5's Roberta Gonzales saw people around Lake Tahoe in short sleeves.
Two storms are headed to the region later this week. The first storm is expected to pass through the Sierra and Lake Tahoe on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasters expect 18 inches of snow at the 7,000 foot level and about 3-10 inches at lake level.
On Friday and Saturday, a second storm is forecast to pass through the area. Lesser amounts of snow at Lake Tahoe are expected, as computer models show the storm trending towards the Mammoth Lakes area.
